You can accurately describe the Coral Sea as Shark infested waters.
This is one of the dozens of Shark photographs I took while diving there.

Between the sharks, the sea snakes and the 200 ft. visibility I found the Coral Sea an exciting place to dive.  I also found it was a long way from the US.  After a warm up flight to Los Angles, I boarded a Qantas 747 for a 17 hour non stop flight to Sydney, Australia. Then it was another two hour flight to Melbourne where I boarded a live aboard dive boat.

The Coral Sea is a large, remote, seldom dived area.  The best spots to dive are the Coral Atolls, with of course, the best ones being the furthest away.

Sea Snakes live in about half of the area and even though they have a venom much more deadly than a Cobra they aren't much of a threat to divers because of their very small mouth and teeth.  Sharks live in great numbers in the entire area and we practically never got in the water without seeing some.  Using any kind of common sense the sharks don't seem to be a problem and they add a bit of spice to the Coral Sea diving experience.
