Bali Ha'i - Lumihai Beach Kauai Hawaii

The movie South Pacific was filmed on this beach in Hawaii, so this really is Bali Ha'i.  This is the beautiful Lumihai Beach on the north shore of Kauai.  It's also a very dangerous place to go for a swim, due to the large size and unpredictability of the surf.  One Hawaiian interpretation of the word Lumihai is "death by drowning."  I took this picture in the early 1980's before a lot of the development was done on the North Shore.
