Elk in Olympic National Park

In the Ray and Steven Doan Photographic Collection

Olympic National Park got its start in 1909 from President Theodore Roosevelt who created Mount Olympus National Monument to protect the summer range and breeding grounds of the Olympic elk.  It became a national park in 1938 and as you can see was successful in protecting the elk.
