These Atlantic Puffins were nesting on the Latrabjarg Bird Cliffs in northwest Iceland. In the evening there were massed flights of thousands Puffins returning from sea to feed their chick. These flights are usually in a circular pattern called a wheel. The wheel tracks over the water and then back to the cliffs with all the Puffins flying in the same direction. The Puffins fly with wind behind them over the sea and against the wind over the burrow areas at the top of the cliffs. |
