This Gentoo Penguin and her two tiny chicks are at their rookery on Aitcho Island, in the South Shetland Islands in Antarctica. The South Shetland Islands are off the Antarctic Peninsula, which is known as the 'Banana Belt' of Antarctica. I was there in January, which is the middle of summer in the Southern Hemisphere. The temperature was usually around freezing with overcast skies.
