Emperor Penguins near Ice Cliff in Antarctica

In the Ray and Steven Doan Photographic Collection

Emperor Penguins near a cliff of ice in Antarctica.  The Emperor Penguins often locate their rookery in the vicinity of grounded icebergs.  The icebergs are typically 600 feet thick with a 100 feet of it above water. When the icebergs drift into water 500 feet deep they ground themselves and form 100 foot high canyons of ice cliffs where the Emperor Penguins set up housekeeping.
