The Egyptian Pyramids are probably the most famous and the most photographed monuments in the world. They are located in Giza, which is a suburb of Cairo, but it is one large unbroken metropolitan area. I didn't know until I got there, that metropolitan Cairo is the third largest city in the world with a population of 17,000,000 people. The auto traffic in Cairo has to be seen to be believed. There are not many traffic lights in Cairo, but it doesn't make any difference, because no one on a main street stops for a red light. We were in a traffic jam at one o'clock in the morning, on our way to the airport.
