The two pairs of seated colossi, at the entrance to Abu Simbel, are all of Ramses II. The one statue lost its head in an earthquake in 27 BC. The damaged head lays at its feet. The statues are positioned to catch the first rays of the raising sun. Ra-Harakhte was the patron deity of the city of Heliopolis. |
