This colossal granite statue of the pharaoh Rameses II stands at entrance of the Hypostyle Hall at Karnak. Karnak is a huge complex of temples in Luxor, on a site covering 1.6 sq. miles. In early Egyptian history Karnak was the equivalent of the Mall at Washington D.C. The Egyptians starting building at Karnak 4700 years ago and every succeeding Pharaoh added to the place. |
