The little roofed sheds, seen throughout the Balinese rice fields, are used mainly to house a cow, that is not allowed to graze free. The cow's food consists mainly of elephant grass, that is grown along the tops of every retaining wall or dike in the rice terrace fields. Every morning the cow's owner goes out with his hand scythe and cuts a big bundle of grass, that he carries back to his cow. You can see that dykes in the foreground of this picture have already had the elephant grass harvested. |
