Baby Spotted Hyenas in Tanzania Africa

from the Ray I. Doan Photographic Collection

This baby Spotted Hyena has a secret, that he's whispering in his friend's ear.  You're looking at strongest cubs in their litter.  Within hours after birth Spotted Hyena siblings, of like sex, battle for dominance.  The winner keeps the other from nursing until it weakens and dies.  Because the fighting takes place in the narrow tunnels of the den the mother Hyena is powerless to intervene.  I photographed this cute pair in Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania, Africa.
