Spanish Dancer in Papua New Guinea

In the Ray and Steven Doan Photographic Collection

This is Hexabranchus Sanguineus which is a giant nudibranch.  This one was almost two feet long, and has a common name of Spanish Dancer.  The Spanish Dancer is special among nudibranchs, in that it can swim.  When they are disturbed or threatened they swim off with a beautiful undulating motion.  This motion, which is something like a Flamenco Dancer, gave rise to the name Spanish Dancer.
