African Malachite Kingfisher

This tiny Malachite Kingfisher can be found at permanent fresh water areas that have fringing vegetation.  When the sun is shining their ultra-marine backs make them look like a blue jewel attached to a reed.  This guy lived at one of the hippo ponds we visited in the Masai Mara of Kenya Africa.
