This Black-Backed Jackal was probably a helper to a mated pair of Jackals. Black-Backed Jackals mate for life and often older offspring hang around their parents and help out with babysitting chores. With a helper the mated pair can spend more time hunting which often means they can raise more of their young to a self-sufficient age. I photographed this guy in the Masai Mara of Kenya Africa. |
