Female Spotted Hyenas are bigger and more aggressive than males and they dominate males. Spotted Hyenas are unique in that the females have very high levels of male sex hormones. In fact they also have male appearing sex organs. The smaller males are obviously afraid of the super aggressive females, which makes for an amusing courtship spectacle. We photographed this beauty queen in Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania, Africa. |
