There are two kinds of Ostriches in East Africa. In the northeast areas there are the Somali Ostrich. The Masai Ostrich is found in the rest of East Africa. The males of both species have a black body with contrasting white wings and tail. The Somali males have blue-grey legs and neck that turn brighter in the mating season. I photographed this male Somali Ostrich in Sumburu National Park, Kenya. This is typical Ostrich habit being dry lightly wooded grasslands and open plains. |
