Red-Billed Hornbill in East Africa

In the Ray and Steven Doan Photographic Collection

There are 23 species of Hornbills in Sub Saharan Africa.  Seven of these species are found in East Africa where we photographed this Red-Billed Hornbill.  The  Red-Billed Hornbill has a bill that it uses like a pick-ax to dig in the ground for dung beetle larvae.  It prefers to forage on open ground in heavily grazed areas.
