Male Gerenok Antelope in  Samburu National Park

from the Ray I. Doan Photographic Collection

Only the male Gerenok Antelopes have horns.   They live in arid thornbush country where most water dependent grazers can't survive.  They're usually seen in small herds of three or four but they're also often seen individually.  The Gerenok is one of the most desert adapted antelopes and it is never known to drink.  I photographed this Gerenok in Samburu National Park in Kenya Africa.
