Black Rhino in Africa

from the Ray I. Doan Photographic Collection

Both the black and white species of Rhinoceros are in fact gray.  The White Rhino name is a corruption of the Afrikaans word for wide.  The wide refers to the White Rhino's broad upper lip that is designed for grazing.  The Black Rhino is smaller and meaner than the White Rhino and it has a sharper horn.  The Black Rhino is more a browser than a grazer like the White Rhino.  I photographed this guy in the Masai Mara of Kenya Africa.
