We photographed this Ptarmigan, with its white winter plumage, as it looked for food in the willow thickets near Churchill, Manitoba in the Canadian Northwest Territories. Unfortunately for him and his flock, snow was late arriving, so their white camouflage was exactly the opposite. Until the snow arrived they would be easy prey for Arctic Fox and Snowy Owls. |
