This beautiful large shell is called a Triton Trumpet. It is found in tropical waters, in various varieties, pretty well around the world. It is the shell that the Polynesians use in ceremonies for their trumpet call. This one was a medium size specimen about 18 inches long. They are fairly common in the Bahamas but are quite uncommon in Florida. I found this one under the old Seven Mile Bridge in the Florida Keys. |
